The TSCM exhibits at external locations from time to time. We have put together displays with State Rail, City Rail, model railway exhibitions, as well as non railway exhibitions.
This exhibit left, is of how train control works. There are two locations established as two stations, with telephones all working. The train control telephone, incorporated a mock recorded exchange between the train controller and station staff. The public could pick up the phone and listen in on the conversation.
At the Liverpool Model Railway Exhibition a Station display was created in which all the safe working items were wired up and working. You could withdraw a tablet from the respective instrument and deposit it in the other. The stations were known as Coopers Hill and Simpsonville. Telephones, staffs, clocks and bells were all genuine and authentic railway items and all designed to represent two stations with an imaginary 10 kilometre distance between both stations. The display was very popular with the Public.
At the Newcastle telephone show a display was based on the perceived most significant phone of each decade, from the beginning where "The Gallows" was on show, to the future where the Video Phone was provided. The display covered every decade for the past 125 years. This showed the progress, as each new innovation was introduced into the telephone system.
The display showed a fascinating history of the evolution of the phone and communications generally.
